About Us

Trust Us to Get the Job Done Right

After meeting with you to understand your vision, our team of designers will be able to create a plan with various design and budget options. Once we find the option that best suits your needs, our install team of landscapers, irrigation technicians, carpenters and masons will get to work. Throughout the process, our project manager will keep an open line of communication with yourself and the team to ensure your dream landscape project is delivered on time, on budget, without compromising our demanding levels of excellence.

Meet the Owners

Dan Smith

Owner, Founder and CEO

Dan founded Yorkshire Landscapes in 2015 after relocating from the rolling hills of York, England, in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside. With a farming background and a rock-solid work ethic to match, he discovered a true passion for creating landscape projects that are not only elegant but built to last. His vision and dedication continue to shape the company’s identity and reputation today.
Dan and his wife, Ravina, have two kids—Max and Gia—all proudly (and somewhat reluctantly) loyal Everton supporters. When he’s not coaching Max’s soccer team, you’ll likely find Dan carving down the local mountains on a bike or board—chasing adrenaline and a bit of peace and quiet.

Brett Gibbons

Owner and Project Manager

Brett Gibbons made the move to Vancouver Island in 2021 in search of that laid-back West Coast lifestyle, leaving behind the prairies of Calgary where he’d spent over 15 years honing his craft in the landscaping industry. With deep knowledge and experience across all aspects of landscape construction, Brett’s meticulous approach and high standards have played a key role in Yorkshire Landscapes’ growth in recent years—though he’d be the last to take the credit.
When he’s not on site, Brett’s all about rhythm and resilience. A longtime fan of drum and bass, he also trains in kickboxing and is gearing up for his first competition—watch this space. He’s also a strong advocate for social justice, always keen to be part of positive change in a world that’s constantly evolving.

Meet the Team

Mia Skingsley

Office Manager

Mia joined the Yorkshire team in 2021 after moving from the UK with her husband, Mike, in 2017. Originally from Stoke—where grey skies are a way of life—she started out working onsite with both our maintenance and construction teams, never one to shy away from a bit of weather. Her transition into the office has been a game changer, playing a key role in the development and organization of the company behind the scenes.
Outside of work, Mia enjoys time with Mike and their young son, exploring the beauty of the West Coast—preferably with a strong cup of Yorkshire Gold in hand. It’s fair to say the kettle is never too far away.

Harry Elliott

Site Lead

Harry joined the company in 2020 after relocating with his partner, trading the Yorkshire countryside for the West Coast. Originally from Yorkshire, he began his career in the landscaping industry there and now serves as a Site Lead in our Hardscape Division. Known for his attention to detail, especially on some of our more intricate masonry projects, Harry brings both skill and dedication to every site.
A loyal Liverpool fan (for better or worse), Harry enjoys playing football and cricket in the local leagues around Victoria. He also has a curious fascination with creepy crawlies—each to their own, we say.

Joe Musson

Site Lead

Joe joined us two years ago after making the move from New Zealand with his Canadian partner—swapping the Southern Alps for the forests of Vancouver Island. With many years of experience in the landscaping industry, Joe has delivered some impressive projects on the other side of the world, and now brings that same high standard to everything he leads here. As a Project Lead, he's known for his clear communication, steady leadership, and ability to get things done—without making a fuss about it.
When he’s not on site, you’ll most likely find Joe tearing up the mountain bike trails across the Island and beyond. He rides like a kid set loose in a candy shop—just don’t try to follow him unless you fancy eating dust for lunch.

Stephanie Wilson

Site Lead

Steph joined us in 2024, bringing East Coast roots to the West Coast after moving from Nova Scotia and settling on Vancouver Island. With a background in horticulture and years of hands-on experience, Steph has built an impressive depth of knowledge—particularly when it comes to the plant material we work with across the Pacific Northwest. Her expertise, combined with clear and confident leadership, makes her a huge asset to the team—though she’s far too modest to say so herself.
Outside of work, Steph keeps busy with an impressive range of interests: hockey, golf, boating, and diving into some seriously cool woodworking projects. She’s got a knack for making just about anything look effortless—though we know better.
